Internet Explorer 8 issue on Windows Vista

Internet Explorer 8 issue on Windows Vista
Hey Guys,

I'm running Windows Vista as my operating system with Internet Explorer 8 as my web browser. Accidentally some of my Internet Explorer files got deleted while running registry cleaner on my pc. But however, my Internet Explorer works fine, but the problem is that my Windows Vista doesn't show "set default programs" menu and even my email links doesn't work on my system. Can any one tell me that why i'm having such problem on my pc? Does any body knows about this issue? Kindly help me out to resolve the above issue? Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Try to re-register the following files in System32 folder:vbscript.dll, jscript.dll, mshtml.dll

If you don't find the files, then extract from Vista setup and copy them to System32 folder and then register them.

To address the issues above, you may need to try one, some, or all of the following three procedures.
Empty the cache

The first thing to do when Internet Explorer is misbehaving is empty your Internet Explorer cache. Often the cache is not corrupt or damaged – it is simply too large.

1. Click Tools, then Internet Options, and then click the Delete Files button.

2. A Delete Files window will appear. Select the option to Delete all offline content, and then click OK.

3. Click Settings and reduce the size of your cache to, say, 50 to 100 MB (more if you routinely download very large files).

This will invariably fix the dreaded red x, View, Source, and sometimes "Page cannot be displayed" errors.

Emptying the cache will not be sufficient to fix things if a hidden file in the cache folders, called index.dat, is corrupt. Our best alternative in such a situation is to delete the cache folders in their entirety, but this cannot be done from within Windows under normal circumstances.

Index.dat is a system file, and any attempt to delete it while Windows is running or while the user is logged on will be blocked. Therefore, we need to reboot into DOS mode or, when running later versions of Windows that support user accounts, we need to log in to Windows using a different Administrator account to that which is affected.

Note: The following procedure is for advanced users.

Re: Internet Explorer 8 issue on Windows Vista
This issue occurs because Outlook Express might not be able to pass authentication credentials through ISA Server.
1. Add *.hotmail.com;*.msn.com into Exception under IE-->Tools-->Internet Options-->Connection-->LAN Settings-->Proxy Settings-->Advanced.
2. Use the firewall client and uncheck proxy settings under Internet Options
3. Configure the HTTP redirector filter to send to the requested Web server on the ISA server. To do this, go to ISA Management-->Extensions-->Application Filters-->HTTP Redirector Filter-->Options, check Send to requested Web server.
4. Configure protocol rules and site and content rules to apply to any request under ISA server. To do this, go to ISA Management-->Access Policy-->Site and Content Rules or Protocol Rules, double-click the appropriate policy and then click the Applies to tab, and then click Any Request.
5. If you are running a Windows 2000 Domain. you can force authentication by using the Windows credentials. To do this, go to AD Domains and Trusts, right click where it says "Active Directory Domains and Trusts" and choose properties. Add a new UPN suffix such as hotmail.com and msn.com. Then create a user with the same name and password as your hotmail account. Set the UPN for that account to the hotmail.com or msn.com UPN created in the previous step. Note: this would need to be done for every client that accesses hotmail. It is recommended that the rights of these accounts be restricted, perhaps placing them in a special group. If you are using user/group access restrictions in ISA, make sure these users are granted access.

Re: Internet Explorer 8 issue on Windows Vista
In Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 8 is not considered to be a ‘program’. Instead, IE8 is categorizing as an ‘update’. Thus, users will not be able to find Windows Internet Explorer 8 in “Programs and Features” of Windows Vista.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, go to Control Panel, and click on Uninstall Programs link or Programs and Features icon. Then on Tasks pane on the left, click on View installed updates link. Locate and select Windows Internet Explorer 8 in the list of installed updates, and then click on Uninstall button. Click on Yes when asked that are you sure want to uninstall the update.

In your case some of the .dll files are corrupted .
you can register these files by using register file vbscript.dll, jscript.dll, mshtml.dll , using the command regsvr32 file name.
